That was your last chance to check on it before your get airborne. Make sure you have enough space around you should you drop the kite or go flying off down wind, and make sure the water is deep enough to fall into. All sounds pretty obvious, but if kitesurfing undervisning you’ve been sitting in the car, psyching yourself up on Iron Maiden and Red Bull some fundamentals may slip your mind. Currently, kiteboarding is rapidly gaining popularity in the world, although it acquired its modern look only in the late 1990s.
Since then, I’ve done kiteboarding atleast a dozen times, crawling my way up to reach the highest speed and jump for the near-perfect experience. I wrote this quick guide to teach what I’ve learned from a beginner’s POV and answer all your doubts. So, how high and how fast can you really go while kitesurfing? You shouldn’t try to launch near people, and beginners should launch from the beach before heading out to the ocean. After you’ve got all of your gear together, you should make sure your kite’s lines are flat and stretched out. If you’re using an inflatable kite, you should begin inflating a few minutes before you intend to launch. Once you’re about a foot into the ocean, have a spotter hold your kite handle and strap your feet onto your board.
First of all the planning of your kite session
Beginner kiteboarders start from 10ft high jumps with only a few seconds of air time. Although, all hope is not lost because you can also jump upwards of ft with practice and technique.
Do this by pushing the section of line just below the loop through the loop to form a noose. You then feed the knotted end through this noose and pull the line to tighten it. At the end of this stage you should have all 4 lines laid out neatly with the ends near the attachment points of the kite.
That, at least, was my experience, attempting to learn over a five-day trip with KiteWorldWide to Essaouira on the Moroccan coast, flying with RyanAir from Stansted. But ask anyone who skis or snowboards how easy learning that was, and then ask them if it was worth it. When I asked a group of experienced German kitesurfers why it was worth persevering, they needed just one word – “freedom”.
When I tell people that I have been kitesurfing since 2003 they start asking about this sport and one of the most popular questions is “HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN TO KITESURF? I have seen a wide spectrum of progressions among my students and fellow riders, so, let’s take a look at different scenarios here. The more experienced riders can ride on winds of over 40mph with a small maneuverable kite. When starting kite surfing at a kiteschool, all the required kite surf gear will be available for you on the spot. Make sure all the equipment is in order every kite session you head out. Check the gear regularly and replace or repair damaged parts.
Land masses can affect tides so that they do not follow a diurnal pattern. There are places that have mixed semi-diurnal or only a Diurnal tide . As the earth rotates 1 full rotation in 24hrs, each region of the earth will pass through each ‘bulge’. This is why we get 2 full tides every day as your global position passes in and out of each ‘bulge’. Tidal force causes water on earth to ‘bulge’ out on the side closest to the moon and the side farthest from the moon.
1.2 How to use a Tube Kite for kitesurfing
Then when they are separated and checked, go back and repeat the process with the power lines. Now unroll a meter or so of the lines and place them on the ground under the upturned kite. I like to weigh these down with a handful of sand, especially if it’s windy.
The wind range at which you can safely ride is from 3–5 to 15–20 m/s, and comfortable for most riders — from about 6 to 12 m/s. Most kite manufacturers produce kite models ranging from 5 m² to 17 m² , or up to 21 m² . The optimal number of kites is 2 or 3 for different wind conditions. If the wind force is less than the lower limit of the wind range, then the traction force of the kite won’t be enough for the board to confidently keep the athlete on the water. In some locations, high tides will cover your launching and landing zone and place you too close to hazards. On low tides, other hazards such as reef may become exposed which make the location unsuitable for riding. Our explanation of tides has so far neglected the effect of land masses on water movement.
You need this skill later to pick up your board it’s called body dragging upwind. The first and most important skill you need to develop is controlling a kite. Or directly in the water with a tube kite, there are different styles of teaching. Non are wrong as long it is a well-thought-out process. There are a lot of different trainee kites or power kites, make sure you get a kite that can be controlled with a kite bar. This makes the motion of steering and controlling the trainee kite the same as the tube kite that is used for kitesurfing.
